From July 11 to 13, the Latin American Travel Association (LATA) hosted the 2018 edition of Experience Latin America (ELA), a B2B event that brings together tour operators and travel agencies that commercialise Latin America in the UK and leading receptive trade companies in the region.
At a talk held by Embratur – The Brazilian Tourist Board, Gustavo Pinto, founder of Inverted America Journeys, introduced the participants to Muda! – Brazilian Collective for Responsible Tourism and the sustainable travel opportunities around the country. Launched in April 2018, Muda! brings together six companies dedicated to responsible tourism in Brazil: Vivejar, Estação Gabiraba, Inverted America Journeys, Uakari Lodge, Tropical Tree Climbing and Turismo Consciente.
About 50 guests of the British tourism trade have joined the presentation, interested in getting to know the various Brazilian projects in sustainable tourism, ranging from indigenous territories in the Amazons to itineraries near large urban centres such as Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
“With the support of Embratur, Brazil is finally having the opportunity to be recognised as a destination that offers experiences of responsible tourism”, stated Gustavo Pinto. “The receptivity of the British market was great, mainly because they are very interested in sustainable consumption and because they were still unaware of the products we have showed”, he added.
Also during ELA event, the association launched the LATA Sustainability Charter as part of its strategy to continue to boost ecotourism and encourage British tourists to adopt more conscious practices when traveling in Latin America. Muda! and Embratur were two of the first signatories of the charter, and have committed to supporting sustainable tourism in Latin America along with the British association.
