Community-Based Tourism Project in Paranaguá (PR)

Challenge

The Port of Paranaguá (PR) is one of the busiest in the country, second only to the Port of Santos (SP) in terms of economic significance. Located in the Bay of Paranaguá, it facilitates the maritime export of various products from several states in the South, Southeast, and Midwest regions of Brazil. As its economic importance has increased since its inception, so has the impact of its activities on the surrounding communities.

To continue an existing project in the region, the Vivejar Institute was invited to take on a new phase, aiming to set new directions for it and bring positive results to the population.

Solution:

Upon taking over the project, we conducted a regional diagnosis to identify opportunities and the potential of each community. From there, our team began promoting various activities to develop tourism responsibly in the area: awareness campaigns, engagement with local businesses, training workshops, support in organizing events, and individual mentoring, as well as assistance in organizing the 14th National Festival of Fandango Caiçara and a CBT panel during the event.

All of this is coordinated by the Institute’s team and validated by the method designed by Marianne Costa. Throughout the project, periodic reports are generated regarding the results and involvement of local agents/leaders.
