We offer an authentic experience: A river cruise through all the beauties of the Rio Negro. And where do we start? In the heart of the Amazon rainforest, Manaus. With more than 2 million inhabitants you will be enchanted with the history, flavors and the beautiful forest. At the beginning of the 20th century, Manaus was actually known as the Paris of the Tropics.

But the protagonist of this itinerary is Rio Negro. Imagine navigating the largest tributary of the left bank of the Amazon River, the longest river of dark waters in the world and the seventh largest in volume of water. It is known for its unique beauty, for the people that inhabit its banks full of big trees, for the lakes rich in biodiversity and abundant Amazonian culture.

A Journey Through Pristine Forests

As you glide along the majestic Amazon River, you will be surrounded by lush, verdant forests that stretch as far as the eye can see. This cruise takes you through some of the most remote and untouched parts of the Amazon, providing a front-row seat to the wonders of nature. From towering trees and dense underbrush to the intricate web of life that thrives beneath the canopy, every moment on this cruise brings a new discovery.

The Trip

Day 1 – Beginning of the Expedition and the Meeting of the Waters

The expedition begins at 10:00 am from a port in Manaus with a safety briefing and introductions. Leaving the bustling city, the journey commences along the Negro River towards the Solimões River, where the two rivers meet but do not mix, creating a stunning visual phenomenon.

The journey continues in smaller canoes to explore local life along the Solimões River, passing floating houses and immersing in the sounds of birds and monkeys in the Xiboreninha Canal. At sunset, the expedition returns to the main vessel and then sets off towards the Enchanted Lake, where nocturnal wildlife spotting activities take place by canoe. The night is spent sailing westward, taking about five hours to reach the destination.

Day 2 – Igarapé Preto Village and Janauacá lake

Igarapé Preto Village and Janauacá

After a five-hour sail, the expedition arrives at Igarapé Preto, a village showcasing the Riverside lifestyle. Visitors can observe traditional farming practices, including manioc flour production and the cultivation of fruits like cocoa and passion fruit.

The village also features rubber trees, historically significant for the rubber industry. The journey continues by canoe to the Enchanted Lake, known for its unique floating forest ecosystem, a testament to Amazonian biodiversity.

After lunch, the expedition heads to Janauacá, offering opportunities for recreational fishing or wildlife spotting, including the chance to see the Hoatzin bird. The night includes another wildlife spotting activity before sailing towards the Ariaú River.

Day 3 – Negro River, Ariaú river, Dolphins contemplation

The expedition moves from the Solimões River to the Negro River, stopping in the Acajatuba region to observe pink dolphins and explore the Anavilhanas archipelago, a complex of 400 islands.

This area provides a rich opportunity for wildlife observation and scenic views. Activities include canoe trips to observe local fauna and flora, and in the afternoon, a visit to the Baré indigenous community at Nova Esperança.

Guests can learn about traditional crafts and participate in an optional hike to explore a unique micro-ecosystem. Dinner is served by Jaradá Lake, with the option to sleep in hammocks for a complete Amazonian experience.

Day 4 – Cuieras Region and Baré Indigenous Community

Cuieras Region and Baré Indigenous Community

The day starts in the Cuieras region with a tour of Tucumã creek and a visit to the Baré community, known for their handmade crafts. The afternoon includes a journey up the Cuieras River to Jaradá Lake for a hike through a unique ecosystem, culminating in a special dinner by the lake. The night is spent sailing back towards Manaus.

Day 5: Say goodbye - return to Manaus

The final day involves a visit to the Tatuyos indigenous tribe for a cultural presentation, offering insights into their traditions and rituals. The tribe, originating from the Northwest Amazon, comprises multiple ethnic groups that relocated to Manaus for better economic opportunities and cultural exchange.

The expedition concludes with a return to Manaus around 4:00 pm, leaving participants with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Amazon’s culture, history, and natural beauty​

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • The Ministry of Health recommends (not mandatory) the yellow fever vaccination for all travelers over 9 months of age who enter endemic areas in Brazil, such as the Amazon region.
  • As it is an itinerary in the middle of nature, the attractions and route are subject to change according to the level of the river, ensuring the safety and comfort of all travelers.
  • Considering the activities on the last day of the itinerary, we recommend that you book a flight leaving Manaus Airport after 9 pm.
  • The cabins are equipped with a small double bed and a single bunk bed, accommodating up to 3 people. For greater convenience and comfort, we recommend a maximum of 2 adults and one hild per cabin.
  • You can upgrade to the Master Cabin that has more space, a king size bed (2.03 x 1.95) and panoramic windows for 10% extra per person.
